Give Me Red! - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade

If I could tell you about Red

I would sing to you of fire

Sweet like cherries

Burning like cinnamon

Smelling like a rose in the sun

Colors to Love! - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade

Most artists absolutely love a wide range of colors - that’s part of being an artist, right?  Vibrant colors and subdued colors, they all have their places in designs. As Wassily Kandinsky, a Russian painter who is credited with painting the first purely abstract works, once said:

"Color is a power that directly influences the soul."

I totally agree!

Blues, Turquoise and Teals - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade

According to scientific studies, blues, turquoise and teals have been found to be some of the most relaxing colors, both mentally and physically, especially the lighter shades.  Peaceful, calm and gentle, these colors have tremendous power to manage stress. They are very soothing colors that help calm the mind, slow down the heart rate, lower blood pressure and reduce anxiety.  From home decor to clothing to jewelry, the colors are favorites.

Today’s Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade features beautiful items created by handmade artists in the three colors:  blue, turquoise and/or teal. I hope you enjoy these choices . . . and feel a bit more relaxed after looking (and perhaps purchasing)!

Artisan Favorites - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade

When you buy something handmade by a person, there is something special there. And you do feel it. The consciousness with which the thing is made is often more important than the thing itself.  J. Donald Walters

I just love browsing through the shops of handmade artist friends.  Who knows what new beauties - or old beauties you suddenly see in a brand new light - you will find!   Two items from five artists are featured below (myself, included). I hope you enjoy these picks.

Spring Colors! - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade

Behold, my friends, the spring is come; the earth has gladly received the embraces of the sun, and we shall soon see the results of their love!   Sitting Bull

With spring definitely here in the Borderlands, I have been thinking about colors quite a bit as the brown of the desert bursts into so many glorious shades of green.  The white and pink fruit trees have pretty much quit blooming, so the various shrubs, hardy trees, ocotillo, cactus and poppies will add their beautiful spring colors: yellow, pinks, oranges, reds, purples and others all against the huge dark blue sky.  My soul revives!

Handmade by Artisans - Three for Thursday

Two weeks have come and gone . . . and here it is time again for another Three for Thursday blog post.  Three for Thursday posts feature three handmade items from three artists. If you look back at previous posts, you will see that the items chosen celebrate a wide variety of artistic skill.  That includes the artists you’ll find this week: eye catching manga and dog figurines by Sam of Shinrin Studio; colorful crocheted accessories and plushies by Michele of Starrfish Studio; and, fun dog themed beauties from Donna of SewAmazin (my dog, Seamus, has several of Donna's dog bandanas - he looks VERY handsome in them!).

COLORS! - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade

I love this quote by the artist Edvard Munch:  “The colors live a remarkable life of their own after they have been applied to the canvas.”  I can’t imagine life without colors, from the bold and brilliant to the soft and subdued. The magnificence of a field of wildflowers would be lost, along with a blazing sunset and the colors of a hummingbird and a Renoir painting.  I truly feel sorry for people who can only see a small amount of color . . . or none at all.

The theme of this week’s Wonderful andmade Wednesday on Indiemade blog is “COLORS!”  The beautiful colors used to create the artisan handmade pieces shown below definitely have a life of their own after they were worked into the design.  Enjoy!

Red for Valentine's Day! Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade

Valentine’s Day will soon be here, so I thought I’d share some mainly red handmade items from talented Indiemade artists.  Now these items were purposely chosen to not be overly “Valentines” - no heart designs here!  Just wonderful designs that primarily deal in many shades of red, from deep reds to vibrant reds.  So these beauties obviously can be worn most any time of the year.

Make It a Handmade Christmas - Countdown - Week 12

Tick . . . tick . . . tick.  According to the Christmas clock, there are now only 19 (!!!) days until Christmas!  It’s hard to believe that December is already here and, with it, the last week of the Countdown to Christmas 2017.  The Countdown has been graciously hosted by Julie and Blue of Blue Morning Expressions on their The Blu Print blog.  Yes, week 12 has come and gone and sixty artisan handmade items were left in its wake, any of which will be perfect for a Christmas gift that was individually handmade from the heart.  Help Santa make it a HANDMADE Christmas this year!

Christmas Red - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade

As everyone is aware, the color combination of red and green is closely associated with the Christmas season.  From ancient history to modern time, color has been an integral part of cultural awareness and even an understanding of life.  The meaning of colors touched all members of society, conveying deep messages that everyone could “read”:  at one time, only royalty could wear the color purple and the red robes worn by Catholic Cardinals signifies the blood of Christ, even to this day.  The red and green color combination can be traced to the Mabinogion, a collection of Welsh stories from the 13th century.  And these stories were most likely based on an oral tradition that dates back to the pre-Christian Celts many centuries before where a half-red, half-green tree figures prominently in one of the tales.  In pre-Christian times, red represented male strength and desire and green represented female harmony and fertility.
