Autumn Oranges and Browns - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade

Even though the temperatures are still getting in the upper-80's to mid-90's here in the Borderlands region, the nights are dropping down into the mid-60's at night.  Autumn is definitely in the air!  I have noticed some of the leaves on some of the bushy sumac trees are beginning to turn.  Due to lack of rain or the shorter days?  Probably both.  But it is nice to see the slide into my favorite time of the year.

New Handmade Necklaces and Earrings from Shadow Dog Designs

It’s hard to believe that’s it’s been almost a month since I shared my new handmade earrings and necklaces with you.  I have been traveling quite a bit, to Dallas and to Kerrville, in the Texas Hill Country (a favorite place).  Even with that, many new, one of a kind pieces of jewelry have been posted in my Indiemade shop.  They feature a wide range of materials, from gemstones to Czech glass, and a wide range of styles, from classic to boho. But one thing they all have in commen . . . they are all fun!  If something catches your eye, please click the live link below the photo to be taken to the listing for more information.

First Handmade Item, Second Page - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade

I just got back from a week stay in Dallas yesterday afternoon, a long 10 hour drive with my four-footed copilot, Seamus.  As you can probably imagine, the city is still reeling due to the sniper who shot and killed five policemen during a peaceful rally.  Residents of Dallas kept apologizing to me for what happened.  Many are truly grieving at the insult.  I told most of them that there was no need to apologize - that with the crazy world we live in now, the shooting could have taken place anywhere . . . unfortunately.  My heart and soul goes out to the families that are left behind and to the policemen and other people who are left dealing with the horrible aftermath.  And my heart and soul goes out to the families of Philando Castile, Alton Sterling and the many others around the nation who have been unjustly shot and killed by the very men who are supposed to be there to protect us.

Peacefully Pink - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade

Even though the color pink is not a favorite color, I have come to respect it.  That came about when I read an article stating that a person can sell more at handmade art shows if they wear a pastel pink colored shirt.  In color psychology, light pink is a positive color inspiring warm, comforting thoughts and is a sign of peace and hope.  According to the article, when you wore pink, people found you more thoughtful and insightful and you were more trusted.  The author, who sold at shows, swore by wearing pink and said her sales definitely increased once she made the change.

Modern Symbols that are Ancient - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade - May 25, 2016

Even though we live in modern times, ancient symbols are found everywhere.  Many people do not even recognize them as being ancient.  Think of spirals, the Zia symbol on the New Mexico flag, the Hamsa, the cross, flowers and many other symbols in their various forms . . . all ancient but still in use today.

Fiery Red and Orange - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade - May 18, 2016

The temperatures are beginning to heat up here in the Desert Borderlands (although I can’t complain since this has been an unusually cool spring).  With the higher temperatures, it seems the sunsets become more fiery in all their blazing yellows red, and oranges.  A sunset a couple of nights ago gave me the inspiration for this blog post:  Fiery Red and Orange.  I browsed through the studios of Indiemade handmade artists and featured a fiery red or orange (or both) creation from each.  I hope you enjoy these richly colored selections.

The Wearing of the Green - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade

Since my family has a LOT of Scots Irish in them, I grew up listening to Irish ballads and bagpipe music.  St. Patrick's Day has always been a favorite celebration (although no watered down green beer for us - had to do it right with Guinness Stout!).  St. Patrick's Day was also celebrated as the start of the spring planting season for gardens and flower beds. Since Ireland is supposed to have forty shades of green, the start of planting season always seemed very appropriate.

The First - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday (on Tuesday)

Since I will be winging my way east for a couple of days of R & R in The Big Easy the day I usually post the "Wonerful Handmade Wednesday" blog, the newest edition is posted today, Tuesday, March 1.  Already March!!!  Yikes!  The theme is simple:  the first item posted in each shop.  I hope you enjoy the wide variety of handmade beauties created by the talented artists shared below:

The Language of Flowers - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade

There is a language, little known,

Lovers claim it as their own.

Its symbols smile upon the land,

Wrought by nature's wondrous hand ...
