Breathtaking Blues and Greens - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade

Maybe it’s because I spent a good part of the week before last in a much greener part of the state, but blues and greens have been much on my mind lately.  In the Desert Southwest, the color blue is extremely well represented with our huge, ever changing blue skies.  But since the monsoon rains have been virtually nonexistent so far, the desert is still a toasty brown.  I long for the rains and the land to green up like it normally does this time of the year and be a perfect complement to the blue skies.

Colorful Doors to Adventure

As long as I can remember, I have always been fascinated with unique doors, whether they are ancient, colorful or beautifully carved . . . or all three at once.  An urge to see what lays beyond the door comes over me, what adventures are beyond.  Needless to say, I have a Pinterest board dedicated to doors, gates and windows - but mostly doors seem to get pinned.  This blog post is dedicated to 15 of my most favorite, which was a very hard to choose.  I could have gone on and on.  Photographers are given credit where credit is due, but, even with a google search, I came up blank on who took many of these.  Also, if the information was given, I included where the door was found.

Handmade Jewelry - New at Shadow Dog Designs

The past few weeks have been very busy creating handmade jewelry, mostly earrings and necklaces.  I'm trying get my Shadow Dog Designs online store stocked up well before the show season starts again on Labor Day and the start of the Christmas buying season.  Shared below are six new pairs of earrings and two new necklaces.  Two "oldies but goodies" round out everything to make an even ten.  If something catches your eye, be sure to click on the link below the photo to be taken to the listing for more information.  I hope you enjoy these one of a kind handmade beauties!

A Bounty of Beautiful Handmade Bracelets

Right behind earrings, bracelets are one of the most popular forms of body adornment.  The origin of the term "bracelet" is from the Greek word "brachile" meaning "of the arm."  The earliest identified bracelet was discovered in 2008 by Russian archaeologist in Denisova Cave in the Atai Mountains of Siberia.  A finger bone fragment was found along with other artifacts, including a beautiful bracelet created from polished green stone.  The items were carbon dated to around 40,000 years ago.

New, One of Kind Handmade Jewelry by Shadow Dog Designs

Can't believe it has been three weeks since my last post sharing new Shadow Dog Designs handmade jewelry with you.  I have been traveling quite a bit:  five days in San Francisco, a Justin Hayward concert in Austin and several days in Dallas getting our townhome somewhat in order.  More traveling will be done to Dallas, a city I'm not overly fond of.  But life sometimes takes strange turns.

As a Child I Walked - Handmade Greens on Indiemade

Several weekends ago, I was driving by a second hand book store that is run by the local library.  Those that know me well know that I am an avid reader - am often at my most happiest when reading a good book with Seamus snoozing by my side.  Since the bookstore was open, the Dog Mobile swerved into the parking lot and I walked into the store.  It didn’t take me long to find a stack of books that HAD to go home with me, an eclectic mixture to be sure.

Handmade Necklaces and Earrings - New Jewelry from Shadow Dog Designs

The weeks have been very busy since my last post of handmade jewelry.  My last outside Arts Festival was two weekends ago.  It feels extremely good to finish the last one for the season - hauling tents, weights and tables (and then taking them down again) gets very tiring.  But things will get VERY busy again once Labor Day rolls around.  Check out my "UpComing Shows" tab to see what I have posted so far for the fall show season.

Modern Symbols that are Ancient - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade - May 25, 2016

Even though we live in modern times, ancient symbols are found everywhere.  Many people do not even recognize them as being ancient.  Think of spirals, the Zia symbol on the New Mexico flag, the Hamsa, the cross, flowers and many other symbols in their various forms . . . all ancient but still in use today.

Fiery Red and Orange - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade - May 18, 2016

The temperatures are beginning to heat up here in the Desert Borderlands (although I can’t complain since this has been an unusually cool spring).  With the higher temperatures, it seems the sunsets become more fiery in all their blazing yellows red, and oranges.  A sunset a couple of nights ago gave me the inspiration for this blog post:  Fiery Red and Orange.  I browsed through the studios of Indiemade handmade artists and featured a fiery red or orange (or both) creation from each.  I hope you enjoy these richly colored selections.

New Handmade Earrings and Necklaces by Shadow Dog Designs

It has been a month since I've shared new handmade jewelry from my Shadow Dog Designs shop. Busy, busy, busy! I've had two large two day shows in three weeks.  Getting ready for the shows and then trying to organize after them always takes such a huge amount of time.  The show Last weekend at La Vina Winery was a fabulous show with LOTS of sales.  The next show is Art in the Park at Memorial Park Reserve. I still need to create quite a few new necklaces, especially chunky ones, and pairs of earrings for that show.  But, I decided to sneak in here and share the six newest necklaces and earrings, most with a boho style, listed in my Indiemade shop - along with four oldies but goodies to make an even ten.
