It’s hard to believe that 2018 is drawing to a close and that a new year will dawn in just a matter of days. 2018 was a very creative year for me as I found items from new artists (to me) to incorporate into my work - and continued working with pieces from old artist friends. Playing with unique color combinations was also fun. Since Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching, I decided to share some handmade Valentine’s inspired jewelry from my Shadow Dog Designs studio. Most are red and/or pink in color - but not all - and some have hearts. But most are not your “traditional” Valentine’s earrings or necklaces; they are more geared for the woman who loves unique designs with a boho falir. The one of a kind pieces can be comfortably worn long after this year’s Valentine’s Day is past. But what a perfect gift any of the handmade jewelry featured below will make . . . long after the day itself is a fond memory!
Pink for Valentine's Day - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade
Valentine’s Day is rapidly approaching and, hopefully, you are beginning to start a gift list. With that in mind, and since last week I featured red items, this weeks Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade will feature items created with shades of pink, from pale pinks to vibrant pinks and lots in between. But just like last week, these items are not overtly Valentine’s Day themed - no hearts (yet!). All the designs featured are handmade by talented handmade artists and can can be worn / used anytime of the year. THINK HANDMADE FOR VALENTINE’S DAY THIS YEAR!
Handmade Earrings and Necklaces, New Designs from Shadow Dog Designs
I have been really busy making and listing new earrings and necklaces these last two weeks, mostly earrings, it seems. Have been enthralled with two new artists I have found and buy jewelry components from. One creates pieces from recycled tea or cookie tins. The pieces are whimsical and very light in weight. Another creates amazing polymer clay pieces, some with a technique called embroidered polymer clay - very intricate and time consuming. I have one pair of earrings from each artist in the beauties shared below. There are seven new creations; the last three are wonderful oldies but goodies to round out the number to an even ten.
Red for Valentine's Day! Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade
Valentine’s Day will soon be here, so I thought I’d share some mainly red handmade items from talented Indiemade artists. Now these items were purposely chosen to not be overly “Valentines” - no heart designs here! Just wonderful designs that primarily deal in many shades of red, from deep reds to vibrant reds. So these beauties obviously can be worn most any time of the year.

Every February 14, candy, flowers and gifts are exchanged between loved ones in several countries, all in the name of St. Valentine. The history of Valentine’s Day contains remnants of both Christian and ancient Roman traditions. The patron saint himself is shrouded in mystery. Who is this mysterious Valentine? Where did traditions associated with Valentine’s Day come from? Being of inquiring mind, I did some research and decided to share my findings, along with a whole host of artisan handmade items, each one a perfect Valentine’s Day gift for a loved one:
Perfectly Pink for Valentines Day! - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade
Last week’s Wonderful Handmade Wednesday blog focused on artisan made creations using the color red. This week the focus is on the color pink. Pink is another color that has deep associations with Valentine’s Day, often paired with the more emotionally intense red on cards and candies and other Valentine’s items. Although both red and pink represent love, the color red represents heat and passion, while the color pink represents romance and charm. Hot pink is used to communicate playfulness, while light pink is used to communicate tenderness. It is the color of universal love, of others and of oneself. It symbolizes friendship, affection, harmony, inner peace, and approachability (which is why I often will wear a pink top when selling my jewelry at an arts festival).
Handmade Valentine's Day Jewelry by Shadow Dog Designs
With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, I thought I’d share a range of handmade earrings and two necklaces from my Indiemade shop; any will be perfect for gift giving to a loved one. Some of the jewelry is obviously Valentine’s related. But most can be worn all year long. The last five designs featured are from my line of meaningful dog rescue jewelry. All have hearts and pawprints, perfect for the woman who loves her dog(s), especially if her four footed friend is a rescue. As always, whenever any of the dog rescue jewelry sells, one half (½) of the purchase price is donated to the Humane Society.
