Happy St Patricks Day! - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade

Due to my mother's side of the family, quite a lot of Scots-Irish blood flows through my veins, being a MacLellan and an O'Birney.  I grew up listening to old Irish ballads by John McCormack and others and also to Scottish bagpipe music.  I thrilled to the legends of Brian Boru, the Fenian Cycle and others - and also to the lifes of Irish saints (although those weren't quite as exciting).  When St. Patrick's Day rolls around, I find myself going though my CDs of Irish folk songs, popping one into my computer and singing along (probably much to the chagrin of Seamus - am surprised he doesn't howl along!).  In honor of the upcoming St. Patrick's Day, I also wanted to share handmade items from talented artist friends that use green as all or part if the design.

Handmade Jewelry by Shadow Dog Designs - New Earrings and Necklaces

It has been almost a month since I last sat down to share my newest batch of handmade earrings and necklaces.  Visiting friends in Long Beach, California and Charleston, South Carolina took up a lot of time, along with shorter trips to Dallas.  Plus, three big shows are in the not too distant future, all in April, so I’ve been very busy trying to make new jewelry to freshen up the look.  Lots of spring inspired jewelry has been photographed - hopefully, those will make it into the next post.

Every Flower is a Soul - Artisan Handmade and Vintage

Here in the Desert Southwest, you can feel that spring is not far off.  The days are getting longer, the winds are a bit windier, and, with the recent rains, the mountains and the desert have a lovely tinge of green.  The first swallows of the season are soaring and dipping through the arroyo that butts up against out back yard.  Other bird migrants will soon be here - yay!  I can almost feel the flowers stirring, flowers of all types will soon make their much anticipated appearance before the heat sets in.

Terrific Turquoise - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade

Since I live in the Desert Southwest, turquoise is a definite favorite of people, both the gemstone itself and the color.  Turquoise is a shade of blue that lies on the color scale between blue and green. It has psychological characteristics associated with both of those colors:  the calmness of blue and the growth that is represented in green. Turquoise is said to be a color that balances blue, green and yellow, linking it to emotional balance. It is a color promotes a feeling of serenity and stability.  I don’t know about you, but whenever I work with turquoise, I do feel a great sense of peace and calmness.

Terrific Turquoise is the theme of today’s Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade blog.  Each artisan handmade item selected uses the color turquoise (or even the gemstone itself) as a major part of the design or as a beautiful accent.  Most of these beauties are one of a kind designs and all are made from the heart.  I hope you enjoy these handmade creations using the color turquoise.

New Jewelry Designs by Shadow Dog Designs, Necklaces and Earrings

It has been three weeks since the last blog share of the new handmade earrings and necklaces in my Shadow Dog Designs jewelry shop.  I have been extremely busy making new pieces with the resulting product photography, photo editing and listing the new pieces . . . with MUCH more to come.  Shared below are the nine new pieces listed since my last “new” blog.  Also two “oldies but goodies” necklace are included, two of my favorites.

Three for Thursday - Artisan Handmade

As I was toying around with the idea for a new set of blog posts, Three for Thursday became an “Aha!” moment.  My plan is to feature three items from three handmade artists in each post, hopefully at least twice a month.  The items will be wide ranging from a variety of materials, most, but not all, one of a kind beauties.  In this inaugural post, the artists I have chosen are:  Mary of PrettyGonzo; Jacki of Christie Cottage; and me, Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs.  If something catches your eye, please be sure to click on the photo or the link below the picture to be taken to the item for more photos and information.  I hope you enjoy the unique artisan handmade items featured below:

Valentines Day at Shadow Dog Designs - Handmade Jewelry

Since Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching, I decided to share some handmade Valentine’s inspired jewelry from my Shadow Dog Designs studio.  Most are red and/or pink in color - but not all - and some have hearts.  But most are not your “traditional” Valentine’s earrings or necklaces; they are more geared for the woman who loves unique designs with a boho falir.  The one of a kind pieces can be comfortably worn long after this year’s Valentine’s Day is past.  But what a perfect gift any of the handmade jewelry featured below will make . . . long after the day itself is a fond memory!

Pink for Valentine's Day - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade

Valentine’s Day is rapidly approaching and, hopefully, you are beginning to start a gift list.  With that in mind, and since last week I featured red items, this weeks Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade will feature items created with shades of pink, from pale pinks to vibrant pinks and lots in between.  But just like last week, these items are not overtly Valentine’s Day themed - no hearts (yet!).  All the designs featured are handmade by talented handmade artists and can can be worn / used anytime of the year.  THINK HANDMADE FOR VALENTINE’S DAY THIS YEAR!

Handmade Earrings and Necklaces, New Designs from Shadow Dog Designs

I have been really busy making and listing new earrings and necklaces these last two weeks, mostly earrings, it seems.  Have been enthralled with two new artists I have found and buy jewelry components from.  One creates pieces from recycled tea or cookie tins.  The pieces are whimsical and very light in weight.  Another creates amazing polymer clay pieces, some with a technique called embroidered polymer clay - very intricate and time consuming.  I have one pair of earrings from each artist in the beauties shared below.  There are seven new creations; the last three are wonderful oldies but goodies to round out the number to an even ten.
