Franciscan Festival of Fine Arts - Labor Day Weekend

If you love spending a fun day at a wonderful arts show, the FRANCISCAN FESTIVAL OF FINE ARTS is being held this coming Labor Day weekend, September 3 and 4, at Holy Cross Retreat Center in Mesilla Park, NM.  A wide variety of juried art (paintings, ceramics, jewelry, paintings, ceramics, jewelry, photographs, crosses, clothing / handbags, metal work, quilts, woodwork, glasswork, community information and much more) will be available to browse and to buy (make an artist's day!).  Everything for sale has to be made by the artist selling it - no mass produced items allowed!  Music, food, drinks, a silent auction and a raffle will also be available.  As you can see from the photos below (all courtesy of Father Tom), there is a wide range of art and activities.  I'll be there with my SHADOW DOG DESIGNS handmade jewelry booth.  Stop by and say "Hi!"

Nina Eaton Photography and Shadow Dog Designs - Christmas Open House

This coming Saturday and Sunday (December 4 and 5), SHOP LOCAL by joining Nina Eaton of Nina Eaton Photography and me, Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs, at the annual Christmas Open House at Nina's house, 506 Shadow Willow Drive, El Paso (in the Upper Valley)  If you are finishing your holiday shopping (or haven't even started yet!), need a stocking stuffer or want to pick up something for yourself, stop by for a wide assortment of unique gifts.  Nina will have a wonderful selection of her El Paso photography:  matted and gallery wrap prints, note cards, stone coasters, trivets, calendars, mouse pads, and other photographic beauties.  I'll have a whole host of my mostly one of a kind handmade jewelry:  necklaces, earrings and bracelets - many more designs than are listed in my online shop.  Additionally, the wide selection of Christmas earrings will be 20% off. 

Fall Art Market - El Paso Art Show

Be sure to mark your calendars:  the FALL ART MARKET is being held next weekend, October 30, 10:00 a.m. -  5:00 p.m. and October 31, 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  The Fall Art Market features over 20 local handmade artists with a a wide variety of items:  painters, glass artists, jewelers, repujado, textiles, mixed media and more.  It's hosted by Pam Schuster at her Design Studio, a wonderful new venue, located at 5536 Westwind Drive, El Paso, TX.  I hope to see you there!

Roses in the Desert - Julia's Beauties!

My good friend, Julia, has spent many years creating the most amazing rose garden in her backyard.  Before she bought her house, someone had planted a rose garden along the back rock wall.  But when she bought the house, only a few sad bushes had survived.  Over the course of the next several years, Julia replanted the roses . . . . and what beauties they are when they bloom!  The roses are her “babies” and she spends many enjoyable hours working in the garden, talking to the roses and inhaling their heady scents when they are blooming.  She also communes with the wondrous animals that come to visit, especially with the Gambel's Quail and the Greater Roadrunner, her favorites
