Peacefully Pink - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade

Even though the color pink is not a favorite color, I have come to respect it.  That came about when I read an article stating that a person can sell more at handmade art shows if they wear a pastel pink colored shirt.  In color psychology, light pink is a positive color inspiring warm, comforting thoughts and is a sign of peace and hope.  According to the article, when you wore pink, people found you more thoughtful and insightful and you were more trusted.  The author, who sold at shows, swore by wearing pink and said her sales definitely increased once she made the change.

“Hmmmmm,” I thought!  Since I do quite a few arts festivals in the spring and fall/winter show season, I decided to give wearing a pink shirt a try.  I had to hit a few stores (I HATE clothes shopping) because trying to find a pastel pink shirt was hard since everything was super bright neon.  But I persevered and found a lovely baby pink t-shirt and one a little bit darker (but still pastel) at Chico’s (on sale, yay!).  At the next show, a day day show, I wore the shirts and sold extremely well.  “Hmmmmm,” I thought.  As the season progressed I added two more pink shirts to the rotation so return customers wouldn’t think I only had two shirts to my name.  Sales continued happening, better than the year before.

Then I thought, “Hmmmmm,” and wore another pastel color one show day, a beautiful aqua . . . and sold better than the pink year before.  I wore black at an indoor show . . . and sold very well.  So, the jury is out.  I still ponder this on and off, still intrigued.  Does pink REALLY make a difference?  Or did my sales increase because I am finally making a name for myself in the area and customers now seek me out at shows?  About half of my sales are new customers and a half are returning.  Also personal friendliness and a great booth design also makes a positive impact as far as sales go.  So it’s probably a combination of all.  I’ll continue wearing pink but will not limit my color palette, either.

So with those musings in mind, I decided this week’s Wonderful Handmade Wednesday would focus on “Peaceful Pink” since the color inspires peace and hope.  Browsing through the shops of Indiemade artist friends, I found the following beauties in many different shades of light and medium pink.  Enjoy!

Pink is Growing on Me

I grew up with boys and was never particularly fond of pink. But pink has a way of growing on me. Maybe there are more shades of pink from which to choose? Or how it makes my skin look healthy and glowing? Pink has worked its way into my color palette from time to time.

As always, I love your choice of items. And thank you so much for including my earrings.
