Make It an Artisan Handmade Christmas - 2022 - Week 3

It's amazing how quickly Week 3 of the Countdown to Christmas 2022 flew right on by.  In its wake, a wide variety of gorgeous artisan handmade / designed gifts were shared.  According to the ever ticking Christmas clock, there are only 81 days until Christmas is here . . . once again.

With the rapidly approaching gift giving season, Julie of Blue Morning Expressions along with her handsome sidekick, Hurricane Harry, are hosting a twelve-week Countdown to Christmas 2022 of artisan handmade items on their Buy Handmade from Makers blog.  The twelve week time period was chosen to correspond with the pervasive holiday carol, "The Twelve Days of Christmas''. This week, there were 36 shares by 12 artists.  The shared gifts include:  jewelry of all sorts, polymer clay beads, lampwork beads, party stickers / tags, christmas ornaments, photographic art and digital art.  Shopping the Countdown to Christmas is the perfect place to start your holiday gift gathering!  An excellent motto to follow is: SHOP EARLY, SHOP OFTEN.  And, most of all, SHOP HANDMADE to support small indie businesses!

Unique Handmade Jewelry by Shadow Dog Designs

It has been almost two months since I last shared the newest handmade jewelry pieces found  in my SHADOW DOG DESIGNS shop.  Definitely not sure where the time goes!  Guess I was so busy creating, photographing and listing new jewelry pieces - which is a good thing!  Ten of the newest pieces are being shared:  seven pairs of handmade earrings, two necklaces and one bracelet.  As always, many have a wonderful boho look but some have a more classic design.  Even better, they are all one of a kind designs!  If something catches your eye, be sure to click the photo or the live link below the picture to be taken to the item listing.  I hope you enjoy the new jewelry.

Dog and Cat Lover Jewelry Handmade by Shadow Dog Designs

Since I am a huge advocate of ADOPT DON'T SHOP when it comes to adding a new dog (or cat) to the family, I have been making a line of dog and cat rescue jewelry for many years now.  When a piece of dog / cat rescue jewelry is sold from my SHADOW DOG DESIGNS shop or at an arts festival, ½ (one half) of the purchase price is donated to an animal rescue organization. I try to keep the donations local whenever I can, but will donate to needy groups in other states that have faced disasters from hurricanes, fires, flooding, etc.  As with all of my jewelry (except for a few styles of Christmas earrings), the necklace and earrings in the rescue line are one of a kind designs.  I’m highlighting seven designs in this post, but there are a few more in my shop here:  https://bit.ly/RescueJewelrySD.  New designs are usually added on a monthly basis.  Please browse the necklace and earrings below - if something catches your eye, either click on the photo or the link below to get more information and see more photos.  I hope you enjoy the jewelry made with love to try to help the sweet souls who are desperately waiting for their furever home.

Happy Valentines Day - Artisan Handmade Gifts!

Valentine’s Day will be here before we know it.  Walk into a store shortly after Christmas and hearts, cupids and other items in pink and red will assail you from every direction.  Flowers, candy and gifts are exchanged between loved ones throughout the United States and in many other countries around the world . . . all in the name of St. Valentine.  Although the exact history of St. Valentine is shrouded in mystery, February has long been celebrated as a month of romance.  Valentine’s Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman traditions.

Make It a Handmade Christmas 2021 - Week 1

My gosh!  Wasn't last Christmas like . . . three months ago?  With as strange as the year 2021 has been so far, it’s hard to believe that Christmas is only 94 days away (according to the ever ticking Christmas clock).  It's definitely not too early to start thinking about all those people on your Christmas shopping list.  A perfect place to start looking (and buying) is the 12 week Countdown to Christmas 2021 hosted by Julie and Harry of Blue Morning Expressions that is filled with a wide variety of handmade gifts.  A new collection will be added each week.

A good motto to follow: SHOP EARLY, SHOP OFTEN!  And, most of all, SHOP HANDMADE to support small indie businesses!

Menagerie - Animal Inspired Handmade Jewelry by Shadow Dog Designs

Menagerie:  a collection of animals, frequently exotic, kept for display.  The term was first used in 17th-century France, in reference to the management of household or domestic stock.

Anyone who knows me knows I love animals in all shapes and sizes - always have, always will.   So I wanted to share a collection of animal jewelry with you that can be found in my Shadow Dog Designs handmade jewelry shop.  Even though these animals found on these earrings and necklaces are not alive, they can definitely be termed a menagerie since there is a wide variety, from exotic animals, such as tigers and giraffes, to domestic animals, like dogs and cats.  If something catches your eye and you want to see more photos and information, please click on the photo or the link below the picture to be taken directly to the item.  I hope you enjoy this menagerie of one of a kind jewelry!

Every Flower - Artisan Jewelry by Shadow Dog Designs

EVERY FLOWER IS A SOUL BLOSSOMING IN NATURE

Gerard de Nerval

Anyone who knows me well, knows that I love growing flowers.  Since moving to the Desert Southwest, it has been a long experiment to see what survives and what doesn’t.  Not only does the summer heat make some plants struggle, but we had an unexpected deep freeze this past winter.  But since the monsoon season has arrived early this year with much needed rain (yay!) and cooler temperatures (yay!), my flower beds are thriving.  The zinnias that were grown from seed have just started to bloom - they are an experiment so we’ll see how they do.  Grandpa Otts morning glories and sunflowers are aso blooming, along with the yellow and native lantana (which started back in March) and cheerful moss-rose purslane.  And, of course, the bright fuchsia pink Knockout roses keep chugging right along.  An all-time favorite flower, hollyhocks, are just about bloomed out.  I've been taking photos and hope to share some in a blog later on.  I revel in the beauty of flowers!
