Roses in the Desert - Julia's Beauties!

My good friend, Julia, has spent many years creating the most amazing rose garden in her backyard.  Before she bought her house, someone had planted a rose garden along the back rock wall.  But when she bought the house, only a few sad bushes had survived.  Over the course of the next several years, Julia replanted the roses . . . . and what beauties they are when they bloom!  The roses are her “babies” and she spends many enjoyable hours working in the garden, talking to the roses and inhaling their heady scents when they are blooming.  She also communes with the wondrous animals that come to visit, especially with the Gambel's Quail and the Greater Roadrunner, her favorites

Despite a strange, exceptionally hot  summer with virtually no rain last year and an exceptionally cold snap this winter, the roses bloomed beautifully again this spring . . . and are still blooming!  Through the past year, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing the phases of her roses through the seasons (since the last time I posted photos of her roses in 2020).  Seamus and I have visited her pretty much every Saturday since the COVID pandemic turned everything upside down in the spring of 2020.  Julia and I would sit on the lower stone wall (socially distanced) and chat and solve the problems of the world, while Seamus dogged around and talked trash to her neighbor’s dogs.  And, when her daughter graciously sent two Adirondack chairs for our use, we’d use them (socially distanced), seeking sun during the colder months and shade during the hotter months.  And, believe me, Seamus got VERY spoiled with all the hugs and petting and dog treats his Aunt Julia gave him!  These visits made it easier for all of us to get through the strange times.

Here are my favorite photos of Julia’s roses somewhat grouped by color, light to dark:

And I couldn't resist sharing a photo of Seamus with his adopted Aunt Julia.  He loves going for a visit and acts like he owns the place, the goofy dog!

I hope you enjoyed each and every one of these rose photos!  If you would like to make Julia's Seamus' and my day, please leave a blog comment.  Let us know which is your favorite color of rose!  And any promotion you can do will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!
