It's A Beach Wedding - Wonderful Handmade Wednesday on Indiemade

June is the traditional month to get married.  But how did that tradition start? Inquiring minds want to know!  I found two major thoughts on the start of the tradition of June weddings:

*** In Roman times, the goddess Juno was the protector of women in all aspects of life, but especially in marriage and childbearing.  A wedding in Juno’s month (which became our June) was considered the luckiest.

*** June weddings can also be related back to the Celtic calendar.  On the Cross-Quarter Day of Beltane or May Day (May 1) youg couple would pair off and court for three months with a wedding taking place on the next Cross - Quarter Day or Lammas Day (August 1).  The young people were impatient, even back then, so the waiting period was shortened quite a bit to mid-June.

Interesting fact:  In Victorian times, June weddings were the rage because plentiful flowers were available for wedding decor . . . and the scent of the flowers were used to mask body odor!  Romantic, indeed!

The tradition of June weddings continues to this day.  The next four busiest wedding months are August, July, May, and September.  And the busiest wedding day is Saturday.

When we lived on Hilton Head Island, SC, beach weddings were very popular as you might imagine.  Some were very traditional weddings; some were more on the casual side.  So I decded a beach wedding would be this week's Wonderful Handmade Wednesday theme.  Browsing through the shops of Indiemade artist friends, I picke done item from each that would be perfect for a beach wedding, formal or informal.  I hope you enjoy them:

I would love a beach wedding!

I would love a beach wedding! Such beautiful choices :) Thanks for including my something blue bracelet.

Thanks for including my sea

Thanks for including my sea star necklace. I love being near the ocean!

Almost a Beach Wedding

I grew up at the beach and have always loved spending hours swimming and browsing the shoreline for shells and stones. My husband and I almost married on a beach in Mexico. We later decided on something more traditional but that idea is so appealing. Thank you for reminding me of it, and for including my bracelet.

Thanks Catherine!

I clicked all items and tweeted them individually and tweeted the post.

I love the bouquets to cover the stench! LOL

Time to get married!

Wow! These beauties are worth getting married for! What great wedding finds! Thanks so much for including my pendant! All pinned up!

Fabulous selections

...for a beach wedding. I adore Linda Landig's starfish necklace; it's so happy. And I can totally see your favorite family pet rocking the flip flop bandana. All of the creations are stunning and I can picture them in my mind's eye at a beach wedding. Or any affair in summertime. I love that you've included the nice soft blue tones, too. Something blue! Thanks for including my earrings.

Wonderful Selections for a Beach Wedding!

Fantastic selections, Catherine! Doin' some sharing here ... :)
