First of all, just what is the fascinating monad (also spelled “monas”) symbol? “Monad” comes from the Greek word “monos” which means “alone. Even though the monad is very ancient, it wasn’t until John Dee, an advisor, scientist and alchemist in the court of Queen Elizabeth I of England, created the actual symbol somewhere around 1564. The glyph refers to ancient creation theories of the first being or the single being that is within all beings. From top to bottom, it is said to represent the moon, the sun, the elements and fire.
