Shimmering in their exquisite, colorful beauty, the TIDAL POOLS handmade earrings are a perfect gift for the woman who loves lightweight, eye-catching shell jewelry. Reminiscent of the tidal pools that can be found at low tides on the rocky coasts of New Zealand, the one of a kind earrings feature teardrop shaped paua abalone shell earrings with sparkling Swarovski crystals. Named by the native Maori, paua is a species of abalone only found in the seas around New Zealand. Nicknamed “marine opals,” paua is known for its myriad of shifting colors that vary from greens, blues, purples and pinks, some shells with gold or crimson tones. The paua shell used in these gorgeous earrings are teardrop shaped. Be sure to check out all the photos of the earrings so see the colors as the angle of the light shifts - but, be assured, the colors are even more spectacular in real life!. To strengthen the paua shell, a smooth, black acrylic coating was added to the back. Because the teardrops are made from shell and acrylic, the earrings are very lightweight to wear.
To pick up on the purple hues of the paua shell, two sizes of faceted Swarovski crystal bicones were used in a color called “violet,” a subtle, rich color of light purple. The larger bicone is on the bottom and is separated from the smaller with a tiny sterling silver disc spacer. Sterling silver French hook earwires with an additional violet Swarovski crystal finishes the beautiful earrings.
