GLORIOUS - Paua Abalone Shell Swarovski Crystal Handmade Earrings

These paua shell rectangles are so vibrant and iridescent, I just had to name these one of a kind handmade earrings GLORIOUS! The earrings are made with paua shell (a type of abalone from New Zealand!) rectangles, "heliotrope" 6mm Swarovski crystal bicones and sterling silver. What a glorious combination! The colors in the paua shell are absolutely divine: from purple to green to pinks to creams. As the sun hits the shell from different angles, new colors seem to blaze forth (which makes the paua so extremely hard to photograph well!). "Heliotrope" Swarovski crystal bicones were chosen to complement the beauty of the paua shell and to add extra sparkle. The colors of the crystals mimic the colors of the paua shell perfectly. To frame the paua shell, sterling silver daisy spacers and 2mm sterling beads were used. They also separate the Swarovski crystals from the paua shell. To finish the GLORIOUS earrings, the main body was wire-wrapped to sterling silver earwires.
Paua shell is a type of abalone found only in the waters of New Zealand. This type of abalone, "Haliotis iris", is considered to be the most beautiful of all abalones. Abalone shell harvested anywhere other than the waters of New Zealand is not true "paua" shell.
