OVER THE RAINBOW - Rainbow Chakra Swarovski Sterling Spiral Earrings

These sparkling, handmade earrings, OVER THE RAINBOW, were created using Swarovski crystals in the colors of the rainbow (and in the balancing colors of the Chakra) and sterling silver headpins with a spiral at the end (hand-hammered by me!). Swarovski crystal 4mm bicones in these colors were used for the earrings (from top to bottom): "purple velvet", "indigo", "sapphire", "emerald", "topaz", "hyacinth" and "siam". Each faceted Swarovski crystal bicone is separated by a 2mm sterling silver bead. The sterling silver spiral headpins were hand-hammered and textured by me. A spiral has represented life's journey for centuries and I thought it was fun to include them with the rainbow/chakra colors. The earrings were wire-wrapped onto sterling silver earwires. The OVER THE RAINBOW earrings were handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs.

Rainbows have always had a place in legend due to their beauty and historical difficulty in explaining the phenomenon. In Greek mythology, the rainbow was considered to be a path made by Iris, a messenger, between Earth and Heaven. In Norse mythology, a rainbow called the Bifrost Bridge connects the realms of Asgard and Midgard, homes of the gods and humans, respectively. The Irish leprechaun's secret hiding place for his pot of gold is usually said to be at the end of the rainbow. In the Dreamtime of Australian Aboriginal mythology, the rainbow snake is the deity governing water. According to Christian and Judaic religions, a rainbow after Noah's flood was taken to mean that God promised that terrestrial life would never again be destroyed by flood.
