Zuni Totem Bear Earrings, Turquoise Coral Southwest Handmade Jewelry

Item Description

The Zuni-inspired AYNSHE fetish bear earrings certainly contain a hearty dose of Southwest splendor, a perfect gift for the woman who loves totemic jewelry.  The handmade dangle earrings featured two-sided Czech glass bears, genuine turquoise gemstones, coral red glass discs , copper and sterling silver.  The glass bears were made in the Czech Republic with a base of cream glass.  A mottled golden amber Picasso finish adds an antique look to the bears.  The fetish bear beads are two sided, each side looking just a bit different due to the mottled finish.   Since the bear beads are two sided, the earrings look wonderful from any angle.

To add even more Southwestern vibes, genuine turquoise discs and coral red Czech glass discs were stacked above the bears.  The turquoise is a dark blue color with natural black matrix running through both.  Above each turquoise discs, adding a pop of vibrant color, are two coral red Czech glass discs with a slight metallic finish for a wonderful sheen.  Sterling silver French hook earrings with copper bead accents finish the fun beauties.  Carefully designed and handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs, the unique AYNSHE totem bear earrings were created for the woman who loves one of a kind artisan jewelry and has more than a dose of the Desert Southwest in her soul.   “Aynshe” is Zuni for “bear.”

***  The Zuni are a native people who have lived in the same area of western New Mexico for approximately 3000-4000 years.  Traditionally, Zuni fetishes are small carvings made from various materials, especially turquoise, depicting animals and icons important to their culture.  The carvings served ceremonial purposes, each animal believed to have powers or qualities that aid the owner.  They also were traded with neighboring tribes, such as the Navajo who especially treasured figures of horses, sheep, cattle or goats, using them to protect their herd from disease and to ensure fertility.

Zuni bears symbolize courage, physical strength and leadership.  Turquoise, a gemstone that is sacred to the Navajo, Zuni and other Native American tribes, is a stone of wholeness, promoting a sense of unity with all that surrounds us. Even though man made, glass is said to carry the energies of transformation, rebirth and communication.  Copper is said to allow the wearer to recognize barriers in the path of personal development.  Silver is a metal of love and healing; it is a mirror to the soul, helping us to see ourselves as others see us.

The AYNSHE artisan fetish bear earrings were carefully designed and handmade in a dog friendly, smoke free studio. They will be carefully packed in an organza jewelry bag with tissue, perfect for gift giving to a loved one . . . or to yourself!
