Dharma Wheel Necklace, Chakra Gemstones Dharmachakra Handmade Jewelry

Item Description

An ancient symbol (from at least 3300 BC in the Indus River valley) representing the natural order of the universe, the DHARMA WHEEL handmade necklace is a perfect jewelry gift for the woman who practices yoga, meditates or just loves meaningful one of a kind jewelry.  The necklace features an artisan dharma wheel pendant, gemstones in the severn chakra colors, Czech glass and sterling silver.  The dharma wheel (also called a dharmachakra) pendant was artisan designed and hand cast from Britannia pewter, a lead free pewter developed in the mid-1700’s in Britain.  A raised dharma wheel with its traditional three parts ( the circle, the rim and the hub) is found on the front of the pendant.  Eight spokes radiate out from the hub to the rim, representing the Eightfold Path.  The dharma wheel pendant is high shine, looking like old heirloom sterling silver.  The back of the pendant is smooth and is stamped with the maker's mark.  A heavy duty sterling silver jump ring securely connects the pendant to the main body of the necklace.  For a short explanation of the meaning of the dharma wheel, please scroll down the page.

Perfectly complementing the symbolism of the dharma wheel, a variety of gemstones representing the colors of the seven chakras are used.  The chakra gemstones are:  red carnelian, orange aventurine, yellow citrine, green aventurine, blue apatite, indigo lapis lazuli and purple amethyst.  The gemstones are in groups of five, each group separated by a faceted silver Czech glass spacer, starting with red carnelian and ending with amethyst.  A twisted design sterling silver toggle clasp set finishes the beautiful necklace.  Carefully designed and handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs, the DHARMA WHEEL necklace was created for the woman who loves one of a kind artisan jewelry with mystical meaning.

WHAT IS A DHARMA WHEEL / DHARMACHAKRA?

A dharma wheel represents the teaching of Buddha, the wheel of law and the pathway to Nirvana (a state of enlightenment).  It is an important symbol not only to Buddhism but also to Hinduism, Jainism and other religions.  The circle, the round shape of the wheel, represents the perfection of the dharma, the Buddha's teaching.  The rim of the wheel represents meditative concentration and mindfulness.  The hub represents moral discipline and the three swirls in the hub represent the Three Jewels and joy.  The spokes have different meanings depending on how many there are.  The most common number of spokes on a dharma wheel is eight, such as on this pendant.  An eight-spoked wheel represents the Eightfold Path, the path to nirvana: right views, intention, speech, action, livelihood, effort, mindfulness and concentration.

A dharma wheel represents the teaching of Buddha.  The seven gemstones represent the seven chakras (chakra means “wheels”), the main energy points that run down the body’s spine.  Although man made, glass is said to carry the energies of transformation, rebirth and communication.  Silver is a metal of love and healing; it is a mirror to the soul, helping us to see ourselves as others see us.

The DHARMA WHEEL artisan necklace was carefully designed and handmade in a dog friendly, smoke free studio.  The necklace will come with two informational drop tags: one with the piece's name; the other lists the materials used in the necklace and the language of the stones and metals. It will be carefully packed in an organza jewelry bag, perfect for gift giving to a loved one . . . or to yourself!
