The ANCIENT SCRIBES earrings are a perfect jewelry gift for the woman who loves the mystery of Egyptian hieroglyphs. The handmade earrings feature artisan pewter hieroglyph dangles, vintage snake vertebrae glass beads, Bali beads and sterling silver. Individually hand cast, the lead free pewter dangles feature a different set of hieroglyphs on each charm. One dangle from top to bottom has: an eye (safety), a zigzag (water), 2 curved staffs (folded cloth), a spiral (shelter) and an unidentified marking. The other has: a sideways lotus bud (rebirth), a quail chick (the letter W) and a zigzag (water). A bit wider on the bottom than at the top, the charms have an antique look. After a rustic patina was applied to bring out the hieroglyphs’ details, the charms were polished for an heirloom silver vibe. The back of each charm has a slightly grainy finish and bears the maker’s mark..

To add unexpected beauty to the earring design, two vintage snake vertebrae glass beads are stacked above. Sometimes called zigzag beads, they get their more common name due to their resemblance to the interlocking vertebrae of snakes. Most vintage snake beads are Czech- or French-made and were produced for African trade. The coral red-orange colored beads are at least 50+ years old. A sterling Bali bead with granulation sits on top of each stack. Sterling silver French hook earwires finish the eye-catching earrings.
