Sgraffito Turtle Earrings Brown Green Turquoise Handmade Glyph Jewelry
Item Description
The one of a kind TSISTEEL petroglyph-inspired earrings are a wonderful handmade jewelry gift for the turtle lover in your life! The earrings feature artisan ceramic turtle charms, real turquoise, copper and sterling silver. The unique shield shaped ceramic turtle charms were individually made with a medium brown glaze on the front. To give a distressed look, a sgraffito method was used: a glyph turtle design was carefully hand etched onto each charm, revealing the lighter, off-white ceramic underneath. A dot of minty green glaze was added to the inner circle of the turtle's shell. Since the dangles were singly made, they are very similar in design but there are also differences. The back of each charm has a light wash of the brown glaze over the off white ceramic.
Perfectly highlighting the green dot on the turtle’s shell, real turquoise rondelles with a natural green color (instead of the more common blue) were used. Brown matix runs through the turquoise, complementing the brown glaze. Stacked on top of each are two copper daisy spacers and a corrugated copper bead. Sterling silver French hooks with smooth copper bead accents finish the fun, lightweight earrings. Carefully designed and handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs, the TSISTEEL earrings were created for the woman who is fascinated with petroglyphs and loves artisan turtle jewelry! “Tsisteel” is Diné for “turtle.”
