Seashell Beach Necklace, Turquoise Coral Thai Silver Handmade Jewelry

Item Description

Each time you wear the serene BLUE WATERS, CORAL SANDS handmade necklace, you are instantly transported (at least in your mind) to exotic coral sand beaches and exquisite blue water, maybe to Anguilla or Fiji or your favorite island get-away. Jewelry for the beach babe, the choker length necklace was created with a Karen Thai Hill Tribes fine silver seashell pendant, turquoise magnesite, coral magnesite and sterling silver.  Thai Hill Tribes fine silver always adds such richness to a design - this beautiful seashell is no exception.  As you can see from most of the photos, the seashell has beautiful detail with lovely ridges and half moons. At the top of the shell is an imprinted flower to add a touch of whimsy. Because the pendant is handmade in a traditional manner, each side is just a bit different.  The silver used in the seashell pendant is called "fine silver" because pieces can be 99% pure silver, as opposed to sterling silver, which is 92.5% pure silver. To continue with a beach theme two colors of gemstones were used to represent exotic waters and beaches:  turquoise magnesite tubes and coral magnesite rounds.  The contrast between the two colors is absolutely gorgeous!  Magnesite, in its natural state, is usually an off-white color. Since the gemstone is porous, it can be easily dyed; you can find it in many colors, including the turquoise and coral used here.  Seven turquoise magnesite tubes were used on each side of the necklace, each framed by 2 mm sterling silver beads. The tubes were then separated by two coral magnesite rounds. Five coral magnesite rounds finish the ends of the necklace.  To clasp the necklace, a sterling silver s-clasp with a lovely design on one side was chosen.  To give the necklace some variability in length, a 1" sterling silver extender box chain was used - it has a wire wrapped coral magnesite dangle on the end.  Carefully designed and handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs, the BLUE WATERS, CORAL SANDS is a perfect gift for the woman who adores wearing one of a kind beach inspired jewelry.

*** The Karen Hill Tribe, living high in the mountains of Thailand (in the Golden Triangle area), use traditional techniques to make their fine silver pieces. Because they live so close to nature, a majority of Hill Tribe designs have nature-inspired or symbolic designs. Fine silver has a higher silver content than sterling silver - it can be up to 99% pure as opposed to sterling silver which is 92.5% pure silver. Because of the higher silver content, fine silver has a beautiful "old" glow to it and does not tarnish as quickly as sterling silver does.

Shells are believed to stimulate intuition, sensitivity, imagination and adaptability.  Magnesite is said to help turn dreams into realities; it is believed to instill peace during meditation.  Silver is a metal of love and healing; it is a mirror to the soul, helping us to see ourselves as others see us.

The BLUE WATERS, CORAL SANDS artisan pendant necklace was carefully designed and handmade in a dog friendly, smoke free studio.  The necklace will come with two informational drop tags: one with the piece's name; the other lists the materials used in the necklace and the language of the stones and metals. It will be carefully packed in an organza jewelry bag, perfect for gift giving to a loved one . . . or to yourself!
