The beauties feature Mexican purple opal dangles, faceted purple amethyst and purple Swarovski crystals. Found in Central Mexico, morado opals (also known as Mexican purple opals or purple opals) are known for their wonderful patterns of purple and white that meld in subtle combinations, almost like a watercolor painting. Since it is a “common opal, “ purple opals don’t have the play of color that “precious opals” opals from Australia and other places have. Many morado opals when placed under a shortwave ultraviolet lamp glow a blue to violet fluorescence. As you can see in the photos, the morado opals used in the earrings are absolutely stunning with various shades and swirls of purple against the white, almost like a surrealist painting. To add even more beauty, a line of translucent quartz runs near the bottom, adding an unexpected streak of eye-catching shine. Since the purple opal dangles are two sided, they are beautiful from any angle when the earrings are worn.
To perfectly complement the morado opals, purple amethyst and purple Swarovski crystals were used. The amethyst are a rich purple and are faceted in what is called “star cut, triangles that reflect the light at every movement. Two small pewter flower shaped bead caps are found on the top and bottom of the amethyst. To add even more sparkle, faceted Swarovski crystal bicones in a dark purple color called “purple velvet” were added to each sterling silver French hook earwire. Carefully designed and handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs, the gorgeous MORADO gemstone earrings were created for the woman who loves wearing hard to find gemstone jewelry in purple and white! “Morado” is Spanish for “purple.”
