If you adore wearing stylish, chunky jewelry, the DESERT SKY handmade necklace is perfect for you! Created with a huge dose of the spirit of the Southwest sky, the unique necklace features two colors and shapes of magnesite gemstones and sterling silver. Magnesite is normally an off white gemstone with a lovely dark, web-like matrix. Since the stone takes a dye very easily, magnesite can be found in a wide range of colors, turquoise being the most popular dyed color. The one of a kind DESERT SKY necklace uses two colors of magnesite. The first is white magnesite, the gemstone’s natural color. The white magnesite is cut in smooth rondelles, and, as you can see in the photos, they are liberally spread with eye catching dark grey matrix. The stones are graduated in size, larger in the front and smaller in the back.
Separating the first 12” / 30.5 cm of the white magnesite rondelles are dyed turquoise magnesite discs. The discs are a unique multi-petaled flower shape. Because of the carving of the individual “petals,” a whimsical look is added to the necklace, along with great texture, against the silky smoothness of the white magnsite. Natural brown and black matrix can be seen throughout the turquoise-colored stones. So that the necklace flows sinuously when worn, 3 mm sterling silver beads separate each gemstone. The last 3” / 7.6 cm on each side of the necklace is finished with white magnesite rondelles and sterling silver beads. A sterling silver hammered hook clasp set securely fastens the necklace.
