Zia Sun Earrings, Pewter Blue Red Handmade Southwest Symbolic Jewelry

Item Description

Filled with meaningful symbolism, the ZIA handmade earrings a wonderful jewelry gift for the woman who loves the ancient vibes of the Desert Southwest.   The one of a kind earrings features artisan pewter Zia sun charms, faceted sky blue Czech glass beads, faceted red Czech glass beads and sterling silver.  The rustic sun charms were individually artisan handcast from lead free pewter.  The iconic Zia symbol is raised against the background.  The charms were given a dark aged finish and then polished so the raised areas have a wonderful sheen.  The back of each Zia charm is inscribed with the artisan’s maker’s mark.

Adding more Southwest vibes are sky blue Czech glass beads and dark red Czech glass beads, both sets faceted for subtle sparkle.  Signifying the Southwest sky, the blue beads are somewhat oval shaped.  Since they’re translucent, they glow beautifully when the earrings are worn.  The dark red beads, representing a fiery Southwest sunset, add a pop of unexpected color.  Sterling silver French hook earwires finish the unique earrings.  Carefully designed and handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs, the ZIA earrings were created for the woman who has the Southwest in her soul and loves wearing one of a kind artisan jewelry.

MEANING OF THE ZIA SUN SYMBOL:  The Zia sun has been a spiritual symbol for hundreds of years for the residents of the Pueblo of Zia in northern New Mexico - the sun is considered to be sacred, along with the number 4.  The Zia sun symbol represents:  the four cardinal directions (north, south, east and west); the four seasons of the year (spring, summer, autumn and winter); the four periods of each day (morning, noon, evening and night); and the four seasons of life (childhood, youth, middle years and old age).  Tying all the elements together is the circle of life with no beginning and no end.

The Zia sun is a sacred symbol to the people of the Zia Pueblo.  Pewter is believed to be very grounding, bringing the wearer back to reality.  Even though man made, glass carries the energies of transformation, rebirth and communication.  Silver is a metal of love and healing; it is a mirror to the soul, helping us to see ourselves as others see us.

The ZIA sun charm earrings were carefully designed and handmade in a dog friendly, smoke free studio. They will be carefully packed in an organza jewelry bag with tissue, perfect for gift giving to a loved one . . . or to yourself!
