Filled with meaningful symbolism, the ZIA SUN handmade pendant necklace is a perfect jewelry gift for the woman who loves the amazing vibes of the Desert Southwest. The beautiful, one of a kind necklace features an artisan zia sun symbol pendant complemented by red coral tubes and genuine turquoise. The rectangular Zia sun pendant was artisan created from sterling silver. The sun with it’s four sets of rays is raised against a textured background. The pendant was oxidized and then polished to bring out the amazing details. The back of the pendant is also textured. The pendant is connected to the main body of the necklace with a heavy duty sterling silver jump ring. For the meaning of the Zia sun symbol, please see the section below the necklace description.
To continue with eye-catching, Southwest flair, red coral tubes and genuine turquoise discs were used. The permanently dyed red coral tubes were hand cut - they are very similar in size but are not exactly the same. For most of the necklace, the coral is in groups of three, each piece separated from its neighbor by a small sterling silver bead. Between each grouping is a high quality, real turquoise disc. The color is mainly a sky blue but some have bits of a greenish tint along with natural brown matrix. The turquoise is separated from the red coral by small sterling beads. A wonderfully textured hook clasp set finishes the meaningful necklace. Carefully designed and handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs, the ZIA SUN necklace was created for the woman who adores Southwest-inspired jewelry and loves the meaning behind the Zia sun symbol.
MEANING OF THE ZIA SUN SYMBOL: The Zia sun has been a spiritual symbol for hundreds of years for the residents of the Pueblo of Zia in northern New Mexico - the sun is considered to be sacred, along with the number 4. The Zia sun symbol represents: the four cardinal directions (north, south, east and west); the four seasons of the year (spring, summer, autumn and winter); the four periods of each day (morning, noon, evening and night); and, the four seasons of life (childhood, youth, middle years and old age). Tying all the elements together is the circle of life with no beginning and no end.

The Zia sun is a sacred symbol of the people of the Pueblo of Zia. Red Coral is used to help calm life, to restore harmony in the event of an emotional conflict. The ZIA SUN artisan necklace was carefully designed and handmade in a dog friendly, smoke free studio.
