Trilobite Necklace, Fossil Rhyolite Handmade Polymer Clay Jewelry Gift

Item Description

Looking as if the trilobite used on the FROZEN IN TIME handmade necklace took many thousands of millennia to form, it is actually an artisan created polymer clay pendant. A sparkling green rhinestone adds a whimsical accent. Complementing the ancient looking fossil inspired pendant perfectly are faceted rhyolite gemstone rondelles, bamboo coral nuggets and orange coral frangia. A lovely gift for the paleontologist (whether professional or amateur) in the family or for the woman who loves unique, one of a kind jewelry designs, the FROZEN IN TIME necklace was carefully designed and handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs.

The artisan made trilobite pendant definitely has an aged look about it.  The pendant was created from polymer clay, an artist’s clay that can be molded and formed into shapes only limited by the imagination.  This pendant started out as an off-white clay, the trilobite design pressed into it.  It was then hand painted with a custom mixture of alcohol inks in shades of light mustard yellow, olive green, brown and a hint of orange.  The brown ink particularly settled into the recessed areas bringing out the amazing detail and texture of the pendant.  To add a bit of fun and whimsy, a sparkling green rhinestone was pressed into the clay near the top of the pendant.  The back of the pendant is also painted and is smooth in texture.  Three darkly oxidized copper jump rings attach the trilobite to the main body of the necklace.

To highlight the colors of the trilobite pendant, rhyolite rondelles were chosen as the primary gemstone.  Formed from rapidly cooling magma, rhyolite (also called rainforest jasper) is mainly a mottled mossy green color but rust red, beige and grey can be found with the occasional hint of peach. The rhyolite is faceted, lending subtle sparkle to the necklace.  Separating each grouping of rhyolite rondelles, are bamboo coral nuggets flanked with orange coral frangia sticks.  Each nugget has its own shape and coloration, a perfect match to the colors of the pendant.  The orange coral picks up on the hint of orange in the pendant and gives a pop of nuanced color to the overall design.  Small copper beads can be found on each side of the coral groupings.  Finishing the FROZEN IN TIME necklace is a sleek copper toggle clasp set.

Rhyolite is said to light the fire of creativity in the soul and to increase the capacity to love.  Bamboo Coral is believed to help the wearer to understand and value all life on Earth.  Orange Coral is said to bring mental peace and relieve stress.  Trilobites are used to help move from the old to the new and to be receptive to the fresh, innovative forces that are available.  Copper is said to allow the wearer to recognize barriers in the path of personal development.

The FROZEN IN TIME handmade necklace was carefully designed and handmade in a dog friendly, smoke free studio.  The necklace will come with two informational drop tags: one with the piece's name; the other lists the materials used in the necklace and the language of the stones and metals. It will be carefully packed in an organza jewelry bag, perfect for gift giving to a loved one . . . or to yourself!
