Unique jewelry for the woman who loves the magic of sun symbols, the handmade SOL earrings are both colorful and lightweight. The one of a kind earrings feature artisan made ceramic sun symbol charms, aqua opal Czech glass rondelles and orange Czech glass lantern beads. The shield shaped charms are made from high fired stoneware clay. They were individually hand painted with a background of colorful aqua, yellow and orange, very reminiscent of a Southwest sunset. In the middle of each charm is a petro-glyph-inspired three-rayed sun symbol, hand painted in black. The back of the ceramic sun symbol charms are glazed in black. Since the sun symbol charms were individually hand painted, they are very similar in design but also somewhat different. Ancient sun symbols, found the word over, date back as far as 2575 B.C. in Egypt, showing how important the sun is to man, both for growing crops and in religious ceremonies.
To perfectly complement the colors of the sun symbol shield dangles, two types of Czehc glass beads were used. Just above the charms are faceted aqua opalCzech glass rondelles with a rustic brownish Picasso finish around each bead hole. Since the aqua opal beads are translucent, they glow beautifully when the earrings are worn. Just above the aqua opal beads, separated by a pewter disc spacer, is a bright orange Czech glass lantern bead. A gold metallic Picasso finish is found in the recessed areas of the lantern beads for extra eye appeal. Sterling silver French hook earwires finish the beauties. Carefully designed and handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs, the lightweight-to-wear SOL earrings are a wonderful gift for the woman who loves artisan created, petroglyph-inspired sun symbol jewelry. “Sol” is Spanish for “sun.”

Pewter is believed to be very grounding, bringing the wearer back to reality. Silver is a metal of love and healing; it is a mirror to the soul, helping us to see ourselves as others see us.
