The meaningful INSTRUMENT OF YOUR PEACE St. Francis necklace was named after his “Peace Prayer.”  Here is the first part of the beautiful prayer:
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
The unique vintage St. Francis pendant used in the INSTRUMENT OF YOUR PEACE handmade necklace has such a wonderfully rustic feel.  Since the glowing St. Francis, the deer and the dove of peace are raised against a dark patina background, the pendant has great 3-D texture.  It’s a peaceful scene with St. Francis is offering his hand in friendship to the deer while the dove looks on. Since the pendant is over 40 years old, my supplier couldn’t say for sure what the metal actually is, but we both feel that it is pewter due to the old silver look and the hand feel of the metal.  The back of the pendant is mostly smooth and is covered in the dark patina. A heavy duty sterling jump ring securely connects the pendant to the main body of the necklace.
To highlight the St. Francis pendant perfectly, unique amethyst and peacock button pearls were used.  The amethyst shades from dark purple to pale lavender, oftentimes in the same bead. The shape is called “dog bone” because it is narrower in the middle than at the edges, just like a classic dog bone.
As you can see in the photos, the shining pearls range in colors from a lavender gray to dark gray, with bits of blue, pink and green thrown in when the light hits the pearls at the right angle. The pearls are called “buttons” because of their shape:  rounded on one side and flat on the other. Two button pearls, the flat side placed back to back, separate each amethyst gemstone in the front of the necklace then every three stones at the back. Small sterling silver beads separate the amethyst from the pearls.  The end of the INSTRUMENT OF YOUR PEACE necklace is finished with a small sterling silver toggle clasp set with a twisted design.

St. Francis is the patron saint of animals and the environment.  Pewter is believed to be very grounding, bringing the wearer back to reality.  Amethyst is known as the “stone of peace” because it’s said to help calm fears and reduces stress; it helps increase spirituality and contentment.  Pearls are used to spread loving vibrations; they are said to promote sincerity, truth and loyalty. Silver is a metal of love and healing; it is a mirror to the soul, helping us to see ourselves as others see us.

The INSTRUMENT OF YOUR PEACE artisan necklace was carefully designed and handmade in a dog friendly, smoke free studio.  The necklace will come with two informational drop tags: one with the piece's name; the other lists the materials used in the necklace and the language of the stones and metals. It will be carefully packed in an organza jewelry bag, perfect for gift giving to a loved one . . . or to yourself!
