Spirit Horse Necklace, Turquoise Southwest Petroglyph Handmade Jewelry

Item Description

The SPIRIT HORSE handmade necklace radiates the soul of the Southwest, extremely reminiscent of Native American petroglyph rock art, paintings on hides and other forms of art.  Jewelry for the woman who loves horses, the one of a kind piece features an enamel horse pendant with many symbols, genuine turquoise nuggets and copper.  The petroglyph-inspired horse pendant was artisan created.  It started out as a hexagon-shaped copper blank that had dark turquoise blue glass powder fused to it at extremely high heat.  A permanent horse decal was added, and then, for a high gloss finish, everything was permanently kiln fused at about 1475 degrees F.  The brown horse with a darker brown mane is beautifully highlighted against the speckled, rich turquoise-colored background.  On the body of the horse are various Plains and Southwest tribal symbols:  spirals (life’s journey); a hand (success in combat or a carrier of a mission); a lightning arrow (swiftness); stars (guidance); quarter moon (protector); and others.  Of course, the horse itself was viewed by many tribes as a holy being, a gift from the creator.  The back side of the pendant is enameled in a speckled heather blue.  A sturdy copper jump ring securely attaches the horse pendant to the main body of the necklace.
To perfectly complement the darker turquoise background of the pendant and to add more Southwest vibes, genuine Kingman turquoise nuggets were used.  The turquoise was mined in the Cerbat Mountains in northwest Arizona at the Kingman Mine, the last full-time production turquoise mine in the US.  The color is a beautiful medium blue with a small bit of brown matrix in some of the nuggets.  The nuggets are graduated, the largest near the pendant and the smallest near the clasp.  A pure copper toggle clasp set that was darkly oxidized and then polished finishes the unique necklace.  Carefully designed and handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs, the one of a kind SPIRIT HORSE necklace is a wonderful gift for the woman who loves Southwest-inspired jewelry and especially loves horses.

Horses have long been a symbol of power to most cultures and are believed to symbolize strength and vitality and the ability to overcome obstacles in life to pursue goals no matter what may stand in the way.  Turquoise, a gemstone sacred to the Navajo, Zuni and other Native Americans, is a stone of wholeness, promoting a sense of unity with all that surrounds us; it is believed to bring peace of mind, a soothing energy and healing of the spirit.  Copper is said to allow the wearer to recognize barriers in the path of personal development.

The one of a kind SPIRIT HORSE necklace was carefully designed and handmade in a dog friendly, smoke free studio.  The necklace will come with two informational drop tags: one with the piece's name; the other lists the materials used in the necklace and the language of the stones and metals. It will be carefully packed in an organza jewelry bag, perfect for gift giving to a loved one . . . or to yourself!
