Paua Shell Pendant Necklace, Peacock Pearls Silver Handmade Jewelry

Item Description

Looking like it’s singing the siren song of the sea, the one of a kind ANGA ATAAHUA necklace is a wonderful gift for the mermaid in your life who loves unique jewelry.  Artisan handmade, the exquisite necklace features a color-shifting paua shell pendant, glowing dark peacock pearls and sterling silver.  Paua is an abalone that is native only to the shores of New Zealand where the Māori recognize it as “taonga” (a treasure).  You can definitely see why it is treasured when you look at the colors of the fanned seashell-shaped pendant.  It is truly luminous with a blue, green, and purple iridescence, magically color-shifting with a change in the angle of the light (even prettier in real life!).  Since paua shell is often cut very thin for jewelry, it’s often encased in resin for strength and durability.  The paua shell used to create the pendant is sandwiched between two layers of resin:  clear on the top with a ridged seashell look and a glossy black resin base. A heavy duty sterling silver jump ring secures the paua shell pendant to the main body of the necklace.
Perfectly highlighting the beauty of the paua shell pendant are glowing freshwater peacock pearls.  The oval-shaped pearls have a dark nacre with a “peacock” glow of greens, purples, blues and bits of pink.  The colors also color shift depending on how the light hits them.  Small sterling silver beads separate the first seven pearls.  After a decorative stack of sterling silver daisy spacers, the pearls are found in groups of three.  A sterling silver hook clasp with a leafy design finishes the stunning  necklace.  Carefully designed and handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs, the ANGA ATAAHUA paua shell pendant necklace is a wonderful gift for the woman who loves one of a kind artisan jewelry and who has more than a bit of mermaid in her!  “Anga Ataahua” is Māori for “beautiful shell.”

According to the Māori, paua shell is believed to bring connectivity and harmony to relationships; the way the colors of the shell shift in the light is also a symbol of change and transition in their culture.  Pearls are used to spread loving vibrations; they promote sincerity, truth and loyalty.  Silver is a metal of love and healing; it is a mirror to the soul, helping us to see ourselves as others see us.

The ANGA ATAAHUA artisan necklace was carefully designed and handmade in a dog friendly, smoke free studio.  The necklace will come with two informational drop tags: one with the piece's name; the other lists the materials used in the necklace and the language of the stones and metals. It will be carefully packed in an organza jewelry bag, perfect for gift giving to a loved one . . . or to yourself!
