Namaste Yoga Necklace, African Christmas Beads Handmade Jewelry Gift

Item Description

Featuring a meaningfully simple porcelain ceramic focal, the one of a kind NAMASTE pendant necklace with colorful African Christmas beads is a perfect handmade gift for a woman who loves yoga, meditates or practices Buddhism.  Roughly translated, “namaste” means “the divine in me bows to the divine in you,” recognizing we are all equals and are created from the One Divine Consciousness. The namaste pendant is artisan created from pale beige porcelain clay with the word “namaste” stamped into it, the individual letters highlighted with a matte brown glaze.  The long oval shaped pendant was fired at high heat in a kiln to make it extremely strong and durable. Except for the letters, the pendant was left unglazed and has a smooth, silky feel. A heavy duty copper jump ring connects the pendant to the main body of the necklace.

Multi colored glass African Christmas trade beads from Ghana perfectly complement the simplicity of the namaste pendant.  Originally made in the Czech Republic and used for trade and decoration in Africa, they are traditionally worn two or more strands at a time and symbolize peace and goodwill.  No one knows why they are called “Christmas beads.” As you can see in the photos, there is a wide range of colors: from white to dark blue and purple, with brilliant pops of reds, oranges, yellows and a whole host of other colors.  Some beads are translucent and some have a slight metallic finish. Since the glass beads are handmade they are not exactly the same size and shape. To add sinuosity and a warm glow to the necklace, copper bicone beads are scattered throughout.  The necklace is finished with a pure copper toggle clasp. Carefully designed and handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs, the artisan NAMASTE necklace will be a jewelry gift that will be treasured and worn time and time again.

Ceramic is believed to be transformative.  The literal translation of the word “Namaste” breaks down into three sections:  nama means bow;  as means I; and te means you - I bow to you or the divine in me bows to the divine in you.  Even though man made, glass carries the energies of transformation, rebirth and communication. Copper is said to allow the wearer to recognize barriers in the path of personal development.

The meaningful NAMASTE necklace was carefully designed and handmade in a dog friendly, smoke free studio.  The necklace will come with two informational drop tags: one with the piece's name; the other lists the materials used in the necklace and the language of the stones and metals. It will be carefully packed in an organza jewelry bag, perfect for gift giving to a loved one . . . or to yourself!
