Healers Hand Cross Necklace, Southwest Bone Turquoise Handmade Jewelry

Item Description

Since the healer's hand, an emblem of a palm with a spiral, is an ancient symbol of healing and protection, combining the hand with a cross makes it doubly potent.  The one of a kind HEALER’S CROSS handmade necklace has all this and more! The unique necklace features an artisan made, rustic ceramic cross with a healer’s hand talisman that is reminiscent of petroglyphs found in the Desert Southwest.  White bone discs, Czech glass beads in white and turquoise, and glowing copper all complement the meaningful cross perfectly. Created for the woman who adores wearing unique cross jewelry, the HEALER’S CROSS necklace was carefully designed and handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs

The meaningful cross used in the unique HEALER’S CROSS necklace was artisan handmade by Sue of StarSpiritStudio.  The Southwest inspired cross is kiln fired with a distressed glossy white linen glaze over terra cotta clay. The back is unglazed terra cotta.  The cross has an ancient look to it, as if it was uncovered during an archaeological dig. In the middle of the cross is an image of a hand with a spiral in the palm, believed to be infused with therapeutic energy.  Because a shaman most often conducted a healing ceremony incorporating the talisman, the healer’s hand is also referred to as the “shaman’s hand.”
To complement the healer’s cross beautifully, several design elements were used.  The first are slightly off-white bone discs, placed in groups of five at the front of the necklace and in larger groups as the back.  The bone discs are Fair Trade (created by a coop of ladies in Nigeria) and since they were individually hand formed, they are similar in size and width but not exactly.  Tis gives the necklace an even more rustic appeal. Glowing copper daisy spacers cap each end of each group.
Placed between the first four groupings of bone discs of the HEALER’S CROSS necklace are Czech glass melon beads and small turquoise Czech glass beads.  The Czech melon beads are made from a base of off white glass and are ridged. A brown Picasso finish was applied to the beads and then polished off, leaving some of the brown in the recessed areas to give an antiqued look.  To add a pop of Southwest color, a small dark turquoise Czech glass bead between each melon bead. The turquoise beads also have a vintage look Picasso finish. A small copper bead separates the melon beads from the turquoise beads.
At the back of the necklace, a single small turquoise glass bead, along with copper beads and copper daisy spacers, separates the bone disc groupings.  The back of each side is finished with three larger faceted Czech glass turquoise beads. A rustic copper hook clasp set securely fastens the cross necklace.

Crosses are a symbol of the atonement and reminds Christians of God's love in sacrificing his own son for humanity.  The healer's hand is often worn by believers to attract good health, good luck, long life and happiness. Spirals, through the eons, have been associated with eternity, the cycles of time, the seasons, the cycle of birth, growth, death, and then rebirth.  Bone is said to bring good fortune and strength. Even though man made, glass and crystals are said to carry the energies of transformation, rebirth and communication. Copper is said to allow the wearer to recognize barriers in the path of personal development.

The HEALER’S CROSS one of a kind necklace was carefully designed and handmade in a dog friendly, smoke free studio.  The necklace will come with two informational drop tags: one with the piece's name; the other lists the materials used in the necklace and the language of the stones and metals. It will be carefully packed in an organza jewelry bag, perfect for gift giving to a loved one . . . or to yourself!
