Giraffe Boho Earrings, Black White Tribal Batik Coral Handmade Jewelry

Item Description

Who doesn't love the gentle beauty and long-legged majesty of giraffes?  Big and bold, the TWIGA handmade boho earrings are a perfect gift for the woman who loves giraffes and tribal-inspired jewelry.  The long, eye catching  earrings feature artisan enamel giraffe head dangles complemented with African batik bone beads and red coral.  The giraffe dangles, which were individually artisan handmade, started out as copper blanks.  Shiny white enamel glass powder was fused onto the front.  A stencil and black enamel glass powder was used to form the giraffe design using a high temperature butane torch.  Just look at the incredible detail of the giraffes:  from the expressive eyes to the beautiful patterning, from the large ears to the pair of ossicones gracing the head of each giraffe.  The charms are basically mirror images of each other, but since they were hand enameled, they are not exactly the same, as the photos will show.  The backs of the charms are finished in black enamel. Despite the larger size of the earrings, the unique giraffe earrings are lightweight to wear.
To perfectly complement the giraffes and to add ethnic appeal, African batik beads and red coral rondelles were stacked above.  The batik beads were purchased Fair Trade from a group of artisans in Kenya.  They were individually handmade from cow bone, painted with wax and then dyed.  The wax repelled the dye, leaving the off white color of the bone showing.  The design, an “eye” surrounded by a circle, is thought to ward off the evil eye. Two eyes are found on each bead.  To add a pop of brilliant color, red coral rondelles cap the top and bottom of the batik beads, separated by copper disc spacers.  A single copper bead sits on top of the upper coral rondelle.  Sterling silver French hook earwires with copper bead accents finish the lovely earrings.  Carefully designed and handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs, the TWIGA earrings were created for the woman who loves giraffes and stylish boho, tribal jewelry!  “Twiga” is Swahili for “giraffe.”

With its long neck reaching into the heavens, giraffes symbolizes the ability to see the future and obtain things that seem out of reach.  Traditionally, bone is said to bring good fortune, strength and wisdom.  Red Coral is used to help calm life, to restore harmony in the event of an emotional conflict.  Copper is said to allow the wearer to recognize barriers in the path of personal development.  Silver is a metal of love and healing; it is a mirror to the soul helping us to see ourselves as others see us.

The TWIGA handmade earrings were carefully designed and handmade in a dog friendly, smoke free studio. They will be carefully packed in an organza jewelry bag with tissue, perfect for gift giving to a loved one . . . or to yourself!
***  The jewelry in my shop is photographed outside in natural light.  Please be aware that not all computer monitors show colors exactly the same. The colors of the components used to create each piece of jewelry are extremely close to the actual color on my own monitor. They may appear lighter or darker on yours.
