Cross Necklace, Vintage Celtic Burgundy White Pearls Handmade Jewelry

Item Description

If you are looking for a bold necklace with an exquisite, eye catching cross, then the CROIS BHRÉAGHA handmade necklace is for you!  The necklace features a vintage brass cross pendant with definite Celtic vibes, color block freshwater pearls in white and burgundy red, and copper beads and toggle clasp set.  The round pendant is made from solid brass and was used for trade in Africa - it was actually collected in Ghana.  A cross with four arms of equal length, called a Greek cross, divides the pendant into four equal sections.  A raised bud is found on each arm of the cross and at the center.  An intricate mirror-image Celtic animal design with a wide open mouth (perhaps a dragon) decorates the center of each section and a woven Celtic border runs along the edge of the circle.  The pendant has a slight patina which highlights the raised design.  The back of the pendant is silky smooth and very slightly domed.  A heavy, decorated copper bail securely fastens the pendant to the main body of the necklace.
To perfectly complement the pendant and to add a huge dose of visual appeal, sumptuous freshwater pearls in two colors were used: snow white pearls and burgundy red pearls.  The pearls are almost luminescent - such a gorgeous glow!  And to add further interest, the pearls are alternately color blocked, starting out with a group of five burgundy pearls on one side of the pendant and, since they are smaller, a group of six white pearls on the other side of the pendant.  A copper bead separates each group of pearls.  Since the pearls are freshwater, they are not perfectly round, mostly having a somewhat oval shape.  An artisan made copper toggle clasp set finishes the beautiful necklace.  Carefully designed and handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs, the  CROIS BHRÉAGHA necklace is a perfect gift for the woman who loves wearing unique artisan cross jewelry.  “Crois bhrèagha” is Scots Gaelic for “beautiful cross.”
