Boho Tribal Carved Bone Hoop Earrings, Coral Garnet Handmade Jewelry

Item Description

Does the haunting, rhythmic beat of a drum just make you want to get up and dance?  Or do you just adore unique, ethnic looking jewelry?  Then, you will love the TRIBAL DANCE boho earrings!  The focal of the handmade earrings are African bone donut disc beads that were individually carved, dyed and hand painted.  To soften the look, pale blue sponge coral rounds were placed above the carved beads, along with unique dog bone shaped andradite garnet.  The perfect jewelry to wear to Coachella or to a barbecue with friends, the TRIBAL DANCE earrings were carefully designed and handmade by Catherine of Shadow Dog Designs.

  • Carved bone donut discs:  app. 25 mm x 3 mm
  • Light blue sponge coral:  app. 8 mm
  • Andradite garnet dog bones:  app. 4 mm x 2 mm
  • Metal:  copper and sterling silver
  • Earwires:  sterling silver French hooks w/ copper bead accents
  • Length:  app. 2.5" / 6.4 cm measured from the top curve of the earwires

The uniquely fun disc focals of the TRIBAL DANCE earrings were formed out of bone, probably water buffalo.  The bone discs with holes in the middle were hand carved on both sides in a design with wavy lines (rays of the sun, maybe?) radiating from the center with four dots between each wave.  The bone was dyed a dark brown color and then the lines and dots were hand painted in white.  Because the bone discs are handmade, you can see that each is slightly different from the other, including the back of the discs.  The discs were carefully wrapped three times with copper wire to attach to the main body of the earrings.

Beautiful pale blue sponge coral rounds were used to mellow the mostly dark color of the discs.  If you look closely, you will notice tiny natural holes in the coral, something that is typical of coral and caused by the once living polyps that formed the coral.  A copper disc spacer was placed above and below each coral round.  Then to add even more interest, three pieces fairly rare andradite garnet was stacked above the coral.  The andradite garnet is a rich, glowing brown color and are in the shape of dog bones or barbells.  They nestle into each other, providing wonderful texture.  A 2 mm copper bead was placed above each stack of andradite.

The components used to created the upper part of the TRIBAL DANCE earrings were strung on the copper wire from the bone discs.  The end of the wire was carefully wire wrapped into a loop and connected to sterling silver French hook earwires.  Two small copper beads were added to each earwire for a professional finish.

For a better understanding of the relative size of the TRIBAL DANCE earrings, please be sure to check photo #5 for a size comparison with a dime.

Bone is believed to bring good fortune and strength.   Sponge Coral is said to help restore harmony in the event of emotional conflict. Andradite Garnet promotes self-confidence and self-esteem. Copper is said to allow the wearer to recognize barriers in the path of personal development. Silver is believed to be a metal of love and healing; it is a mirror to the soul, helping us to see ourselves as others see us.

The TRIBAL DANCE earrings will be carefully packed in an organza jewelry bag, perfect for gift giving to a loved one . . . or to yourself!
